On Line Dating: They Faked You Out
by
Daryl Campbell
Today was the day. After all of the chats and on line dating conversations, the two of you decided to meet. There’s a lot of excitement and anticipation in the air which is of course to be expected.
But you remembered one of the key rules for on line dating and that is when you are meeting for the first time to meet in a public place. Yes those online chats have been wonderful but you also told yourself that you still do not really know this person. That’s a wise move on your part.
Come to find out that you still don’t know this person because when you were sitting there waiting for them a total stranger came over and introduced themselves. You look at them for a minute figuring this is somebody you went to school with. You are about to make some apology and excuse when it hits you. This is your date; the same person to whom you’ve been chatting with all those months except they really don’t look anything like their dating profile. What happen?
You recover (quite nicely thank you) and try to move forward. The person explains that the picture on their profile was taken a few years ago when they were thirty pounds lighter or heavier depending on how they explain it. They also had a different hairstyle and were not wearing their bifocals. Plus the lighting in the picture was not as good as it should have been. Other than that they are who they said they were.
That’s all well and good but to you it only means one thing. They faked you out. Needless to say you are not a happy camper. But what can you do about it?
1. Let Them Have It
It might not have been a complete misrepresentation but it was one none the less; at least as far as you are concerned. It doesn’t necessarily mean you end the date. Letting them know how you feel might make you feel better and let them know in the future to completely honest with you.
2. End The Date
The whole thing is a fraud. You are what you said you were. They were not. So there is no need to go any further. If they want to start the relationship on a lie then you do not want any parts of it.
3. Understand
The person in the picture really is them. Maybe they have been looking for an on line date for so long they forgot to update the darn thing. You investigate further and find out that they did tell the truth about their likes and dislikes. You accept the fact that your date wanted to show themselves in the best light possible and it was not a deliberate deception on their part.
On line dating for some people has turned in to a never ending journey. That is why when they connect with someone they may do everything possible to present themselves in the best way possible. You accept that but if you think that you have been deceived then you are under no obligation to go any further.
